For the bioremediation of an ecosystem, live plants and macro algae
can be excellent biological detoxifiers.
Chaetomorpha “Spaghetti Algae” is cultured by many marine aquarists to eliminate nitrates and phosphates from the aquatic biotope. It is absolutely sufficient to harvest a handful of algae from time to time to maintain the biological balance in an aquarium – an economical and easy alternative to many chemicals or resins.
Naja Grass, Najas guadalupensis, can be grown to purify freshwater
systems, such as cichlid biotopes.
TUNZE® MAR 3181 and 3182 can be placed in any filter basin or next to the aquarium without external filter technology.
The water circulation in the reactor ensures the rotation of the algae culture and thus reduces the number of light sources accompanied by strong plant growth. However, additional light sources can be added to the device as needed.

Algae Reactor
Looks very well made and easy to set up

Typical tunze quality
Works great. I have it running in my sump and it fits with my big skimmer in the waterbox 70.3 (60 gallon cube) sump. Light is super strong and only one is needed. Seal is very solid and is magnetic with screws. I don't trust any device outside of a sump. Silicon tubing for the water lines is great. Make sure the outlet is at or slight above the water line for optimal flow. I am running OGO red algae. It does not spin. IF you loosely rubber band the algae with a couple of rubber bands it spins well. Tunze customer service recommended adding chaeto as potential solution as it is much denser and would attach and spin the OGO. I will be doing that in the next few days. Right now the OGO appears to be growing and healthy:)) I would recommend the bigger size for aquariums greater then 60 gallons, even though the smaller one is rated for much bigger tanks I would want more reactor room.
