Reef Octopus LR-200 Algae Reactor

The Reef Octopus Algae Reactor is a natural filter which utilizes macroalgae like Chaetomorpha to absorb and remove algae-producing nutrients from your aquarium's water. As macro algae grows, it will consume nutrients in the water. Once you harvest the macro algae, the nutrients are then removed from your system.

Besides being a all natural approach to filtration, Algae reactors also provide a safe haven for copepods and Anphipods.

The Reef Octopus Algae Reactor's unique triangular waterproof LED light (IP67 Certified) strip inside the reactor maximizes light exposure for the algae with 360 degree coverage, aiding growth and nutrient consumption. The close proximity of the high-output LED strip gets as much light to the macro algae as possible and quickly grows the macro algae.

Easy to set up and works great

Posted by Grant on Dec 16th 2022

I set up a DIY algae reactor before and experienced great success but the cheap LED light strip eventually failed. That reactor's been offline for a while and my system has paid the price. Once I saw this new reactor I knew I wanted to try it. It seemed like a bigger, safer version of what I'd already been running. When I opened the box, I was surprised to see that it was already mostly assembled and included the feed pump. It took me about a half hour to get it going and it's been working fantastic ever since. I'm harvesting algae every few weeks and my nutrient levels are already dropping. Definitely better than using expensive chemical media. This will definitely save me time and money in the long run!

    Nutrient control made easy

Posted by Frankie on Jul 2nd 2021

Controlling nutrients in my tank has been a constant battle and I'm always wary about adding different supplements or using chemical media to help reduce them. I like the idea of natural nutrient control but didn't have space in my sump for a scrubber. I decided to try the Light Reactor since it can also be run externally. It was easy to get up and running, it's basically already put together when you get it. I'm already seeing the difference in my tank after only a few weeks. One cool feature that I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere is that you can actually dim the light inside. So if you need to acclimate your macroalgae to the light like I did they make it easy to do so. This is my first Reef Octopus product purchase and it won't be my last. I am very pleased!
