Reef Octopus CR-140 Reverse Flow Calcium Reactor by CoralVue*

Quality, design and affordability define the Octopus Calcium Reactor series. Available in 3 different models that feature reverse flow water current for maximum water and Co2contact time with the coral media. All models come with PH probe holders to monitor Ph levels in the main reactor chamber and built in bubble counters to monitor Co2 drip rates. To help you meet the challenging task of maintaining alkalinity, calcium and trace elements , consider adding a Reef Octopus calcium reactor to your aquarium system.

How it works

A calcium reactor is essentially a chamber full of aragonite, which is the crushed skeleton of ancient hard corals. Aquarium water is pumped through this chamber along with pressurized carbon dioxide (CO2). The CO2 lowers the pH in the chamber to an acidic level which dissolves aragonite media into the aquarium water. In addition to dissolving the calcium, this process also dissolves nearly all the minerals and trace elements the coral used in order to grow.

Setup was easy to put together, reactor was a bit noisy. Very hard to find tune the effluent drip rate, have been trying tor two day now and still unable to get the drip rate where i need it to be.

When i received the package with the controller, tank and all I was very happy. I then looked at it all and asked myself, where do I start. It took me a bit of research and I had to go to my lfs to see how they have their reactor set-up. I then went ahead and put things together like the media in it and putting together all the hoses it comes with.there is very much lack of instructions with the reactor which made me a bit mad but what the heck I looked it up in you tube. I love it now that its all up and running and it was a bit of trial and error but not much error since it took me about 6 days of thinking not all day of course but with work and all i took that much time. I am very proud of myself and love it very much. I also have the octopus extreme skimmer which is amazing.

    Great Product, Great Price!

I had been looking at this reactor on other stores as well as AquaCave and decided to go with AquaCave because of their deluxe c02 package offering which in my opinion is an awesome deal. Shipping was fast and the reactor came securely packaged with all the necessary parts. My only complaint about this reactor is the instructions or lack there of. One thing I really like is the c02 recirculating loop. A tube connects to the top of the reactor and pipes down to the recirculating pipe to create a siphon for c02 that builds up in the top of the reactor. This allows c02 to be reused a few times before the build up is so large that it eventually burps out the effluent pipe. A lot of reactors don't have this feature and it causes you to burn through c02 a lot faster since each bubble of c02 is only used once. Other than that, the craftsmanship and quality are very good and for all of this you just cant beat that price. Turn around time on a support question from CoralVue seemed to be about 2-3 days but at least they did respond and every question I had was answered completely. All in all I give this reactor a 5 star rating.

Works great on my mixed 210 gal reef tank.
Very easy to set up and maintain. CO2 recirculating loop is a great feature.
Took it about three weeks to bring my calcium from 340 to 450.
