Hanna Marine Alkalinity dKH Checker HI772
Features at-a-glance:
- Easier to use and more accurate than chemical test kits
- Dedicated to a single parameter
- Small size, big convenience
- Ideal for: Aquaculture & Aquariums, Water Quality
- HI772 uses the same alkalinity reagent (755-26) as the HI755 alkalinity checker
The Hanna Marine Alkalinity (dKH) Checker® bridges the gap between simple chemical test kits and professional instrumentation. Chemical test kits have limited accuracy and resolution since they rely upon the human eye to discern differences in color. Professional instrumentation incorporates a light source such as an LED or tungsten lamp with a filter and a light sensing detector to precisely determine absorbance and ion concentration. This level of instrumentation also offers greater resolution and accuracy, but can cost hundreds of dollars. The Hanna Marine Alkalinity Checker® uses a fixed wavelength LED and silicon photo detector to provide the accuracy of professional instrumentation at the affordable price of a chemical test kit.

Details
The HI772 Checker®HC (Handheld Colorimeter) provides a simple, accurate and cost effective way to measure alkalinity in degrees of calcium hardness, commonly abbreviated as dKH. Critical to marine environments, alkalinity not only provides the carbonate ion required for calcium carbonate skeletal regeneration of coral reefs, but it also acts as a pH buffer against large changes in acidity. Designed as a more accurate alternative to chemical test kits, the HI772 provides quick, accurate results in four easy steps.

Works great, but fragile
I knocked my previous tester off a bathroom sink counter and was shocked that the impact messed up the LCD panel even though it is protected by a plastic screen. I was quite disappointed as the tester worked fine otherwise. Not sure if a replacement LCD panel can be purchased, but I needed to be able to test frequently due to recent issues with alkalinity, so I decided to buy another unit. So, I took a star off the rating due to its fragile nature.

great product
What a great product and no more color chart for me, very simple to use and faster than other test methods. See more Hanna checkers in my future.

Great instruments
I have the alkalinity and phosphate checkers and love them.

When I bought these a couple years back I was very hesitant upon reading the reviews.

But if you are prepared and methodical the tests are very easy to do and give accurate results.
For example for the test that requires mixing in powder I bought myself a small funnel with bottom sized the same as top of cuvette. Makes getting ALL of the powder in simple so you get a true result.
And I also like to shake the powder sample down into one corner and precut packet opening to have it ready for test.

Some simple things like this help

Great product
The Hanna Checker is a little pricy but the ease of use makes it worth the price.

Great product
an excellent product, greatly facilitates the life of the aquarist, you no longer have to try to determine the color visually.

Great product
I use the checker on a daily basis to keep close tabs on my alk. I love the ability to do a quick check to make sure my calcium reactor is on target for the alk level i want

Quick & Easy
This checker comes in a great sturdy case. It is very quick and easy to use. Being new to reefing, I was told to check alkalinity most often - this digital meter allows me to do that quickly without much mess. The dKH reading is a new feature for Hanna and I purchased this one since the hobby standard reading is in dKH - less math, more instant results.
I wish it came with a calibration or testing agent.
