No moving parts to service or fail to make this unit incredibly reliable. A magnetically coupled sensor makes it super easy to install and adjust to the desired level in the collection cup.

As the level in the cup gets too high, Smart Skimmer Security will shut down the skimmer immediately to prevent the skimmer from overflowing. The auto time delay function prevents false alarms due to power outages.

AutoAqua Smart Skimmer Security 
I've used this device for many years (10+), and it works very well. My skimmer cup drains to a (straight-sided) collection bucket, and I have the sensor mounted in the bucket. I have had multiple occasions when my skimmer went nuts (usually due to obstructions in the system), and filled my collection bucket in a matter of minutes. This system reliably turns off power to the skimmer when the water level reaches the sensor level. Without something like this, that skimmate and water would overflow the bucket and be all over the floor. This setup has no moving parts, and there really is nothing to maintain or adjust beyond making sure the optical sensor is kept reasonably clean. My only complaint is that the audible alarm is not very loud, but that's a very minor issue to me. I would definitely buy it again.
