Zoo Med African Mopani Wood Medium 10" - 12"
A beautiful two color African hardwood for aquariums or terrariums.
- Smooth surface, textured detail, and unique mottled color adds interest and enrichment to habitats.
- Use with plants to create the "naturalistic" look.
- One of the hardest and densest woods available; sinks immediately in aquariums and unlike driftwood, will not rot!
Additional Information:
- Mopani Wood has been sandblasted clean and is ready to be added to your terrarium.
- For use in aquariums, remember all natural wood leaches tannins, which discolor water and reduce pH levels. To minimize this effect, soak wood in a separate container, and change water daily to remove excess tannins. The wood will be ready when the water color goes from dark brown to a very light.
- Adding extra carbon to your aquarium filter can help remove any remaining discoloration.

I got WOOD
MOPANI wood ! This piece we got looks amazing in our new Fluval MEGA flex. we had to soak it for a week and leach tannin's from the piece and get it to sink, but well worth the normal effort of adding a crazy looking piece of wood to the tank! thanks!
Amazing wood for aquarium, just put a pack of Purigen in your filter/sump!
This wood is amazing but leeches tons of tannins which Purigen can clear in a day or so. I boiled multiple times before giving up and trying Purigen. I tied a plant on the wood with green thread and it looks awesome.

Beautiful wood
African Mopani wood has the most excellent shine once it gets in the water. This wood sank like a rock upon first putting it into tank. I would advise soaking this wood for at least 2 weeks (or putting in boiling water for a couple of hours) before putting it in your tank if you do not want the harmless tannins to leach into water (which turn water a tea color). This is a very beautiful piece of wood that resists rotting very well. I am very pleased with the piece I received.
