stopped the dying

Posted by mislmunky on May 27th 2022

I bought this for a ~130 gallon cube, but my quarantine tank (29gal) had an ich outbreak amongst L134 leopard plecos. Meds weren't working at all, and I don't think they were going for the Metroplex-laced catfish pellets. I moved the 55-watt Lifegard 3" to that tank for DRASTICALLY over-powered UV help saving my plecos. Lost one fish (who was already at death's door - the reason I panicked and moved the UV). I wasn't sure I was making the right move (instead of nuking with copper, for example), but the dying stopped and the ich slowly cleared over the next week or so.

    Lifeguard 55 watt UV kicks

I have a new 165 gal aquarium that is ageing. I am letting the plants start growing before adding fish. This tank is near a large frame window. When this tank is fully setup with plants and fish, there is no algae problem. However starting up this new tank - algae has fallen in love with me.

Algae was a problem for me in the spring and fall. I have large tanks with tons of plants. I needed something to help age my new 165 gal tank properly. This 55 Wartt Pro Max unit does its job, very, very quickly! I started this 55 Wartt Pro Max for 3 days at 24 hours a day. Poof! All algae is gone!
Now before the lights come on I will now use the unit only for a couple hours a day. When my tank stabilizes without algae, then I will start adding slowly my fertilizer and co2. I needed this little help in kick-starting this new tank into cycling. The 55 Watt Pro Max is saving electricity by running it for fewer hours.

I have a fully automatic Neptune controlled tanks. Water changes, co2, fertilizer, are things of the past as they are automated now. I normally use co2, water changes, and algae eaters in stopping algae. With this 55 Wartt Pro Max unit I am able to stabilize this tank very quickly. It is like cheating nature! Thus this 55 Wartt Pro Max enables me in starting with just plants then later adding fish.

I am also working on a new design with plants using no gravel. My plants are in modular sections. I have removed all gravel on the bottom of my tanks. I have wood and rocks suspended above the Aquarium floor. I drill out the wood and glue rocks together to form potted areas above the tank bottom. This enables me to lift out each planted section for maintenance outside of the tank. Perfect!

I also use Vortech MP40w-QD’s (I love these pumps) for water movement and to clean the bottom of my tanks under all suspended plants and rocks. Talk about an easy daily clean up… Love-it!

I wish this Lifeguard unit came with 3" to 1" reducing fittings for normal tank installations.

This Lifeguard high Output 55 watt Pro-Max unit works like a champ. I highly recommend this quality designed unit with pride. I also use 2 - AF94-19 Lifeguard heater units in all my tanks. They have given me many years of use with NO problems.
Lifeguard 55 watt UV kicks butt

I have a new 160 gal aquarium that is ageing. I am letting the plants start growing before adding fish. This tank is near a large frame window. I will later use the unit only a couple hours a day before the light come on.

Each week, I will tell my Neptune controller to cut back the UV. When my tank stabilizes without algae, then I will start adding slowly my fertilizer and co2. Put science to work ! Incredible Results !!

    Posted by Razorback007 on May 22nd 2019

My options for reducing/removing the algae infestation in our 6k gallon koi pond almost caused me to install a fixed shade producing cover over the sun lit pond at a high cost financially and visually.
I opted to take a chance on this Pro-Max UV unit after researching and reading the reviews of many brands. Installation was easier due to the excellent directions and video. The results over the past week have astounded us. We actually have Koi again in our cleared up pond, instead of “creatures from the green lagoon “!
I only wish I had found this Pro-Max UV product sooner. It’s truly incredible!!
I purchased a couple of “fake” boulders to cover both the UV unit, and the small waterproof case I put the transformer into. Very happy with the results!
