Hydro Sponge 2 Aquarium Filter
The Hydro Sponge filters provides both mechanical and biological filtration. Aerobic bacteria colonize the sponge, providing a bacterial substrate to facilitate the nitrogen cycle. In addition, the Hydro-Sponge traps larger waste particles, mechanically cleaning the water without trapping the baby fish.

Great sponge filter design, great price:
Aquacave is a great resource and good value. Prices are competitive and shipping is quick. The Hydro Sponge II sponge filter is the best design of all the sponge filters out there as far as I am concerned. This is an excellent design for a sponge filter. The core is designed so that you can add on extra core tubes and build up from the gravel. This is great if you want to add an additional sponge because you can use a smaller diameter sponge and go up instead of using the larger size you may need but do not want to take up a wider diameter of your corner with the larger sponges. The core also designed so that you can even place a few ceramic bio-rings into the core. The base is weighted sufficiently to hold down the filter.
